TECHNIQUES

PAPER PIECING:
is a creative and artistic technique used to enhance card designs by layering and assembling small pieces of paper or cardstock to create intricate patterns, images, or designs. This technique offers cardmakers a way to add depth, and intricate patterns to their handmade cards.

Instead of coloring in a stamped image, you can use paper piecing to fill in specific areas with patterned paper. This adds depth and visual interest. Consider using papers with patterns like dots, stripes, gingham, or small florals. Using a variety of patterns can be effective, but avoid too many strong patterns that might overwhelm the design.

The process:
1.  Stamp or print your image onto cardstock or paper (this will be your main image). 2.  Then stamp the same image onto different patterned or colored papers.
3.  Carefully cut out the individual sections of the image from these papers cutting just inside the stamped line is recommended for the best results.
4. Adhere the cut pieces onto the corresponding areas of your focal stamped image. Using a wet glue with a fine nozzle or glue pen can help ensure accuracy and a neat finish.

Simpler approach: You can simplify the process by stamping a main image and then layering smaller details with patterned papers, You don't have to cover the entire image with patterned papers; you can color in some parts and add paper details to others.

OFF OR ON THE EDGE
Going "Off the Edge" refers to a technique where a design element, like an image, shape, or sentiment, extends beyond the edge of the card, meaning it is partially cut or stamped so that a part of it appears to be "hanging off" the card's border, creating a visually interesting effect.
OR
Going "On the Edge" means that a design element is positioned very close to or extends up to the immediate edge of the card, often with no visible border, creating a more seamless and visually impactful look. It essentially describes a design that goes nearly or completely to the very edge of the card.
